Presented by Mandy Lam
Mandy Lam is a K-5 Resource Teacher with over 20 years experience in elementary education. In addition to her responsibilities as Resource Teacher, she also runs a school Makerspace and a STEAM Lab for all K-5 classes. The Makerspace is a combination of free explorations and challenges with an ongoing invitation to create and innovate. STEAM Lab is dedicated to using Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) to implement hands-on explorations, investigations, and engineering challenges for each grade level. She gets great satisfaction from watching students collaborate and problem-solve across disciplines in authentic settings. She also enjoys helping teachers learn how to create and integrate NGSS lessons into their daily routines inside and outside the classroom. Through her district, she has partnered with local biologists to get students out of the classroom and experience NGSS right in their own backyard. She is looking forward to this year's Ventura County STEMposium where she can share her experiences with others while broadening her own areas of knowledge. |

Grades 3-5 Presented by Susan Camarena
Hello! My name is Susan Camarena. I am a very active teacher and I have three awesome children. Two are college graduates (Brookes Institute and Cal Poly SLO), and one just graduated from Camarillo High School.
I have been teaching at Hueneme Elementary School for 21 years. I have taught third grade, yet mostly fourth grade. I also teach the Gifted and Talented Education classes for third through sixth grade. With great excitement to learn more about the NGSS, I have just accepted the assignment of being on the NGSS committee in my district.
One of the most exciting thing that I have been able to do this school year, along with my fourth grade partner, Stacy Hunter, is set up and open a STEAM Lab at our school. Many students have worked in this lab. Stacy Hunter and I have taught two classes for teachers of our district on the subject of STEAM teaching, and I am very excited to teach this summer at the STEMPOSIUM.
